Unity Park

Feed by Grace operates Unity Park, a serene and safe haven in the midst of the homeless community. It is where hope is offered through a variety of both structured programs and free-form times.

Saturdays

The park is open from 8:00am until 3:00pm to homeless individuals and volunteers. Saturday is an unstructured day of playing and relaxation, when relational ministry takes root. The park is dotted with volunteers and homeless individuals sitting together and talking over coffee, thoughtfully studying a chess board, hands held and joined in prayer, or playing a pickup game of basketball. There is a picnic-like atmosphere as food is served by local churches and groups and games, sports, music, and activities fill the day.

Weekdays

Feed by Grace is growing and expanding its ministry to the weekdays. Select homeless individuals will learn a place in the more structured weekday programs. Much needed therapeutic recreation will be offered to increase participants’ self esteem and confidence. Programming such as yoga, tai chi and jazzercise improve health and build self-reliance, while classes in painting and writing provide outlets for participants to express themselves. Participants will learn how to be part of the community through teamwork in seasonal sports leagues. Finally, ongoing support groups in anger management and 12-steps will assist people struggling with specific issues that have been stumbling blocks in their lives. Feed by Grace has been working with area partners to make these plans a reality in 2012.

Gardens

There are multiple gardens within the park.

Numerous raised beds have been constructed and used to grow vegetables. In the upcoming season, vegetable gardening will be part of the weekday program at the park.

Recently a Biblical garden was planted in Unity Park, with signage and corresponding scriptures to be added in the Spring. A commemorative brick pathway will wind through the Biblical garden and past two memorials – one for homeless veterans and one for homeless individuals who have died in Fort Worth. Stay tune for progress updates on this garden project.
